Hike Sand Dunes & See the Sights at Jockey's Ridge State ParkCome see the tallest sand dunes on the Atlantic coast at Jockey's Ridge State Park, part of the North Carolina State Parks system. The sand gets scorching hot in summer, so even though it's tempting to go without, make sure to wear shoes or sandals when hiking on the dunes. The Soundside Nature Trail is one mile long and goes through grassy dunes and wetlands. Vist the 14 stations in the "Tracks in the Sand" hike through the dunes. Other cool activities include picnicking and flying kites - the wind really can pick up here. That means windsurfing is a popular sport, and so is the daredevil activity of hang gliding! There are also designated spots for sand-boarding in the Park.
Prices -There are 8 picnic tables with grills and shelters usually available on a first come, first served basis. If you want to reserve a picnic shelter, the fee is $30.
